What Is a vLEI (Verifiable LEI)?
The newest evolution of the LEI standard is the vLEI — a cryptographically verifiable, digital version of the LEI.
From a code to a digital credential
Where a traditional LEI is a code you look up in a database, a vLEI can be issued to and held by an organisation (and even by specific people acting on its behalf) in a digital wallet. It can be verified automatically, machine-to-machine, without a human in the loop.
Why it matters
A vLEI lets an organisation prove its identity digitally — signing documents, authenticating to services, or transacting with verifiable organisational identity built in. This reduces fraud and the need for manual checks.
