How to Transfer an LEI

If you want to change the organisation that maintains your LEI, you can transfer it. Importantly, the 20-character code itself does not change — only the LOU or agent managing it does.

Why transfer

Companies transfer their LEI for various reasons: faster renewals, better support, or simply managing it in one place alongside other codes. Because the code stays the same, your identity in the markets is unaffected.

How it works

1. Provide your existing LEI to the new agent or LOU. 2. Confirm the transfer request. 3. The new issuer takes over maintenance and future renewals.

A transfer usually happens with no interruption — the LEI stays valid throughout.
