How to Register an LEI

Obtaining an LEI is more straightforward than most businesses expect. The process rests on validating your entity's legal details and publishing them in the global database.

The steps

1. Gather your legal details — official name, enterprise number (BCE) and registered address. 2. Submit the application through a Registration Agent (such as TrustedLEI) or directly to an LOU. 3. Data validation — the issuer checks your details against the official business registry. 4. Issuance and publication — once confirmed, the LEI is assigned and published in GLEIF's public database.

How complex is it?

For standard companies the process is quick, and the only details needed are ones you already have. More complex structures (funds, foreign entities) may need supporting documents. (See Documents required for LEI registration and How long does LEI registration take?)
